HCV Program FAQs

How do I get on the HCV wait list?

The Harford County Housing Agency Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program waiting list is CLOSED effective March 1, 2023.

This decision was made because of the large number of applications dating back several years and the length of time that a new applicant would have to wait to receive assistance. All active applicants on the waiting list on March 1, 2023, will continue to be processed accordingly. The waiting list will reopen when there is a reasonable number of applications remaining, and where the wait time is estimated to be less than two years.

When the waiting list is reopened, the Harford County Housing Agency will give public notice by posting a notice on our website: www.harfordhousing.org and by publishing the relevant information in the Aegis.

How can I verify I am on the wait list?

After you have successfully applied, you will receive a receipt with a confirmation number and instructions for checking your application status online at www.waitlistcheck.com. You may also check your application status by calling 1-877-204-9098. Remember, the office will not be able to predict how long it will take for your name to reach the top of the waiting list. Please allow seven to 10 business days from the application date to check the status.

Where am I on the wait list?

The Harford County Housing Choice Voucher Program cannot confirm your placement number on the wait list. Reaching the top of the wait list depends on a variety of things, including the date and time your application was received, the preferences you indicated on your application, and available funding.

How long will it take to receive a voucher?

For families that qualify, the wait for a voucher may be several years. There are many families and individuals who have applied for housing assistance and are on the waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher Tenant-Based program. We cannot predict when your name will reach the top of the waiting list. When your name reaches the top of the waiting list, you will be contacted by mail for an eligibility interview.
