Carbon Monoxide alarms shall be installed and maintained in accordance with the more restrictive provisions of the Harford County Building Code at the time of the most recent issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy for the structure or the Public Safety Article Title 12 Building and Material Codes, Subtitle 11.
Reference may be made to current building code provisions on the most recent Carbon Monoxide Alarm Placement Handout as published by the Department.
Carbon Monoxide alarms shall be required to be installed in all rental units that rely on the combustion of fossil fuel for heat, ventilation, hot water, clothes dryer operation or have an attached garage. Units shall be installed on each floor including a basement and in the immediate vicinity of each sleeping area.
Carbon monoxide alarms shall be listed in accordance with UL 2034. Combination carbon monoxide and smoke alarms shall be listed in accordance with UL 217 and UL 2034.
Carbon monoxide alarms shall be replaced prior to expiration with a unit of similar type, function, and approved listing.
