Monday, January 6 through Thursday, April 30, 2020



Harford County Government employees are invited to participate in the 5th annual Day of Service program inspired by the life and spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
 

Guidelines:


  • Participation is voluntary.
  • Eligible employees may receive up to 8 hours of administrative leave in exchange for volunteer service at a participating charity.
  • Employees must request administrative leave via KRONOS using the code "Day of Service"; employees may register for 2, 4 or 8 hour service assignments.  All volunteer hours must occur on the same day.
  • Employees must register online and select a volunteer opportunity from the list on this web page (below).  Assignments are not guaranteed, but every effort will be made to accommodate the employee.
  • Participation must be confirmed with the Proof of Participation Form signed by the on-site Volunteer Coordinator and then submitted to their supervisor.
  • Flex and comp time will not be offered for working evening, weekend or holiday hours. 
  • Employees who have less than 8 hours of personal leave or less than 40 hours of sick leave are not eligible to participate. Other restrictions apply.

Participating employees will be on administrative leave.  Harford County Government is not responsible for injuries or damages that occur during an employee's use of administrative leave.

Mission:

The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region

Mission:

Empowers people with differing abilities to live, work, and thrive in the community.  Provides supported employment services to adults; family support to individuals 0-21 and their families; services for transitioning youth; treatment foster care services to children and their families; supported living and personal support services to adults; and community partners day program for adults.

Project:

  Landscaping and yard clean up of group homes in Aberdeen and Joppa.

Boys & Girls Clubs

Mission:

  To inspire and enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

The Edgewood Branch will host a Game Day during their annual Boys & Girls Clubs week celebration.  Volunteers are needed to assist with keeping score, sign up tables, refereeing, and may also participate in the game.  Volunteers will also assist younger youth with learning and playing board games.

Additional Information:

The Havre de Grace Branch will facilitate a sewing class for teens to sew pillows and pillow cases for hospitalized youth and the homeless.  Volunteers are requested to assist with individual projects.

Chesapeake Therapeutic Riding


Mission:

  Our mission is to deliver healing and learning to individuals and groups whose minds, bodies, and spirits will benefit from the transformative connection between people and horses.

Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna


Mission:

 As a reflection of God's love, Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna creates affordable housing opportunities throughout Harford and Cecil Counties by building, renovating, and repairing homes in partnership with the community.

 Beginning phase of construction.  Tasks may include framing of walls and floors, and ground work.

Harford Center


Mission:

  We provide services and supports to adults with disabilities.  We promote dignity, safety, stability, choice, and community integration.  Our goal is to ensure that all of the individuals we support in programs are integrated into the community through social activities, volunteering, employment, and recreation.

Mission:

  The Harford Community Action Agency is dedicated to providing assistance to help all Harford County individuals and families who are experiencing financial hardships in meeting their housing, food, energy/heating, and/or budget and family counseling needs.  We support and encourage them on their path to self-sufficiency.

 Must be comfortable in a canoe or kayak and have beginner paddling experience.  Boats, paddles, personal floating devices and trash bags are provided.  Volunteers must provide personal comfort items such as a hat, sunglasses, water, and sunscreen.  Volunteers will launch from the Estuary Center and paddle to the upstream marsh areas where debris gets trapped. 

Harford County Planning & Zoning (Arbor Day)


Mission:

Planting and Conserving trees improves quality of life with thing the County by reducing air pollution, stabilizing soil and reducing water pollution by absorbing pollutants.  Since 2003 Harford County has planted nearly 32,000 trees in recognition of Arbor Day.

  To provide women with a comprehensive, family-oriented program of recovery from homelessness and substance abuse in a supportive residential environment.

Mission:

To provide adult literacy classes in civics, finance, technology and citizenship; to provide at-risk youth mentoring and family literacy programs for non native speaking residents of Harford County; and to provide all resources needed for non-English speaking residents to support integration into American society.

Provides a safe, warm space for participants in the Emergency Rotating Shelter program.
